Mood Disorders

Mood disorder is an illness, often with an organic cause (chemical imbalances of a brain), that involves mood extremes that interfere with every day living. These extremes are not the highs and lows that everyone experiences, nor are they the mood swings sometimes experienced during adolescence. The emotional swings of mood disorders are extreme in both intensity and duration.

Moods can be persistent, or with sustained elevation. These disorders are usually associated with disturbances in appetite, sleep patterns, energy level, concentration, and memory.

Common Signs with Depression: Persistant sadness,Insomnia Decreased appetite Psychomotor retardation Anhedonia (inability to experience pleasure) Irritability Social with draw Hopelessness Poor self-esteem Suicidal thoughts
Common signs of Bipolar: Persistently elevated mood Grandiosity (inappropriately high self-esteem) Psychomotor agitation Decreased sleep Racing thoughts & Distractibility Poor judgement & Impaired impulse control Rapid or Pressured speech
Several factors can play role in the development of anxiety conditions such as panic disorder. The symptoms of panic are caused by the overactivity of the body's normal fear response. Life experiences and learned behavior also play a part in the development of a panic disorder. If you think you might have a panic disorder, you need to find a licensed psychologist or other mental health professional who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of panic and anxiety disorders. Treatments for this can be helped by a combination of medication and carefully targeted psychotherapy.

Mood Disorders contrast between our experience of positive and negative emotions and the current circumstances of our life.
Depressive Disorders have a pattern of symptoms dealing with depressed moods.
Bipolar Disorders are periods of abnormally elevated moods, usually alternating with normal mood and with depression.
These disorders are caused by chemical imbalances of the brain.&Mood disorders are treatable, but if they can be cured depends on how severe the disorder is and if they have the ability to comply with the demands of the treatment.
